Just two
Will do
Size "Me"
Please
A chest press
Squeeze
Out with sad
Air
In with glad
A warm shoulder
Too
Marked
"You...
belong here"
Just firm enough to
Hold the weight of my
Day
And let it fly
Away on a sigh
With a heart
That beats
Peace
Against my cheek
Will do
Size "Me"
Please
A chest press
Squeeze
Out with sad
Air
In with glad
A warm shoulder
Too
Marked
"You...
belong here"
Just firm enough to
Hold the weight of my
Day
And let it fly
Away on a sigh
With a heart
That beats
Peace
Against my cheek
This was for Laurie's prompt at Poetry Jam poetryjaam.blogspot.com to write about what brings us comfort. However, due to mobile posting--technical difficulties, it didn't post and so I decided to share it with my friends at Poets United--Poetry Pantry poetryblogroll.blogspot.com-- I love hugs they are always comforting--however my husband's hugs are healing--he can squeeze the sad right out of me :-) I've missed everyone these past two weeks. Hugs to everyone!
Comfort in the arms of our loved ones is the sweetest thing of all!!
ReplyDeleteHi Vandana! Yes, they are very sweet :-)
DeleteSara, how wonderful to have a husband who is so gifted with giving healing hugs!! A treasure indeed.
ReplyDeleteHi Mary! Thank you--it was something I noticed about him right away when we were just dating :-)
Deleteit is nice to know we have that place to retreat to...that shoulder to lean into knowing we dont have to bear the weight of the day, of the world alone....and def hugs go a long way too...smiles.
ReplyDeleteHi Brian! Yes, thought you would relate :-)
DeleteA lovely write. Finding peace in the hugs shared, easing out the troubles of the day. Well portrayed. :-)

DeleteI loved this, especially the close--so much sense of comfort!
ReplyDeleteI loved this poem too and the sentiments that go with it. I'm a big hugger too! They are magical, especially from the people closes to us.

I love this! It is just the thing for a cold November evening! I think I'll go find someone to hug and snuggle with!
ReplyDeleteThis does sound very comforting indeed.
ReplyDelete"You belong here" - what a nice feeling when one is able to feel this. A lovely poem Sara!
ReplyDeleteHi Sara! This is so sweet! Nothing like those good strong hugs!
ReplyDeleteEveryone needs an occasional hug and I understand how really healing they can be. Your words wrap around the reader, like a hug.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth
sweet lines full of warmth and comfort........
ReplyDeleteit can mean the world if someone knows us well enough to have just that right sized hug we need...not too loose, not too tight... only love can do this..right..? smiles
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting all of the different ways people define peace and where they would find it. This is a nice piece. Leaves me feeling warm and cozy.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your visit Sara.
ReplyDeleteI really liked this poem.
It's sweet.
Nothing like a hug to make us feel better.
My husband like yours gives me the best hugs to make my world all special when I am in need of a hug.
Thanks for visiting my poem too Sara. There is something about the flow and simplicity of this poem that conveys the comfort you describe. Nice work.
ReplyDeleteYes, I so agree Sara! Hugs can make my day :) Lovely!
ReplyDeleteSara, any partner whose hugs "squeeze the sad" out of you is a keeper. This was such a personal take on Peace, and I'm glad I read it. I do believe, as you do, that a lot of the peaceful attitude comes from our very breath. Lovely. Amy
ReplyDeleteSuch a nice picture you paint here! Huggers are definitely winners!
