License to Love

Sun setting
On me and the day
Focused on HOME
When a license plate
Appears ahead
GDBLSU
Smile replaces
A grim line
Joy peeks out
Who
Is driving this
Message?
A car that's lost
It's gloss
Model type
Intrepid
(of course)
And the intrepid
Messenger?
Guessing a teen
Most likely female
No
A beautiful man
Mahogany statue
Focused forward
Perfect angles
and planes on his face
Smooth, burnished
Reflecting setting sun
His window down
I reach to press the
Button
Open my window
Speak across the space
"Bless You Too!"
But the light has
Changed and
I
Must turn
Away
(still smiling)

Of course true story--I can't make this stuff up--I love that when people put love on their license plates. Pulls me out of my "DRIVE" mode and makes me smile.  This is offered for Poetry Jam, where Peggy asks us write about "reflections" poetryjaam.blogspot.com, thank you Peggy!! and also was going to be offered to Poets United where Kim had suggested for Wednesday a reaction, but I missed the deadline, However, I'm going to take a stretch here, since this was inspired by an object, to link up with Dversepoets (because I love y'all) and go with positive capability, because that's the way I like to roll, at  dversepoets.com--BLSU all :-)

  1. smiles...a cool interaction...i wonder at times about those driving around with personalized plate messages...its daunting in that they have to live up to it you know...but i will take a blessing where i can get it...even if i miss the chance to bless him too...

  2. If only more of the world were like this poem
One may not have to seek, wander, and roam
Among mountains and beaches with foam
To find a peaceful place called home

    1. Hi Peggy! When I saw the model of the car and the driver, a poem was already starting :-) Love those little moments that pull you out of the routine, thank you for giving the perfect prompt to create this poem!

  4. Sara, I love this. I wonder how many people really read these messages on license plates. (I know I do.) I wonder if the guy driving even would have known what you were talking about if he hear you yell out to him "Bless You Too." Maybe his wife ordered the plate? Maybe he had the message so long he didn't think about it any more. Anyway, a very cool REFLECTIVE poem!

    1. Hi Mary!! You leave the most thoughtful comments :-) Didn't even consider that his wife might have bought it, he could have even been in a borrowed car! And I bet you're right, I probably would have made him jump out of his skin if I had been able to get my "Bless you too" out LOL:-)

  6. Isn't it wonderful to be touched like that? Who would ever think a license plate could make someone's day... well that one, for sure can. There is a lot of good left in the world.

  13. I wouldn't dare drive around with a plate like that - which says more about my driving than about my beliefs BTW. This was obviously a precious moment for you - and now you have this wonderful poem to keep reminding you of it.
