Sweet Stuff


Mysterious food tickled me
Spun sugar and rock candy
Pink fluff with a melty crunch
And edible crystals I couldn't munch

Only lick, suck and spin
Till fragments crumbled and fell in
To and on my eager tongue
It took forever to eat just one
(In hindsight, a benefit
Many more would've made me sick)

The squeal of voices and machine
Spinning rides that turned me green
I played and explored the fair with vigor
But, truthfully--I was there for the sugar

    Loved this! Of course, I love sugar, but still...

    Ah Sara - the rock candy - the crunch - the beauty of sugar - the sweetness somehow achingly part, if not central to the entire experience :)

      Hi Pearl! Yep for some reason, that was the first thing I thought of. Cotton candy was such a magical treat, loved to watch them make it.

    Ah yes, I used to like this cotton candy....but now even thinking of eating it makes me a little sick; but what a treat it then. Your poem definitely was a nice capture!

    Ooo...tooth rot time.. LOL I used to love rock candy, till it got so stuck to my fillings and I didn't want to risk pulling them out anymore...lol

      Yep, I had to give it up too, except when they serve it with cappuccino to sweeten it--always makes me smile while I swirl it in the coffee :-)
