Sun Salutation

Go slow
Ease into the day
Sunlight does not hurry
Each beam slightly
Brighter
It takes time to
Help the sky remember
Its colors
No rush
They will come
A slow blush on water blue
Hurried greetings
Offend
A nuclear fusion of effort
Colored the clouds
Just so
Face the light
And fully embrace
The day

Thought this might be fitting since tomorrow is Monday and we'll all be rushing around.  Came to me while walking the dog one morning.  The sunrise deserves its due (dew?).  This is posted for all the lovely people at Poetry Pantry--where Poets United invite us to share  poetryblogroll.blogspot.com

  1. You are definitely right about that sunlight does not hurry, especially this time of the year. It takes its time, can't be rushed. Your poem is a beautiful tribute to morning.

  4. Lovely ode to the sunrise! I especially love the idea that it takes time for the sky to remember! (Interestingly, I wrote a poem last November, when my sunrises are spectacular) and titled it 'Sun Salutation) Good title!!

    1. Hi Barbara!! Great minds think alike, right? I used to take Yoga classes so I was making a little private joke with myself there, too. (one of the poses is called sun salutation...). I'd love to read your poem too:-)

  5. Sara, I especially loved "help the sky/remember its colors." Makes me feel as though I have special power! But the rush-rush of Monday will be different for me having read this. Thank you so much for this moment of grace. Peace, Amy
