Lover's Leap

Perhaps I felt
The fractures
Fault-rumble
And when he
Got that job offer
Three thousand miles
From everything/one
I loved
Closed my eyes
And leapt
Tried to
Keep together
But not enough
Of me survived
The trip

This is tale of sacrifice for commitment-my naïve move to Florida from the Golden State of California, for my then husband, thinking things would be fine—left best job, best friends, best weather for worst job, no friends and awful weather. But I stayed, because I did eventually find love...(and a good job and good friends...) offered up for the prompt of Sacrifice at Poetry Jam poetryjaam.blogspot.com, Laurie's first night (yay Laurie!) and for prompt of Committed at Poets United (yay Kim!) (felt like I should be committed after I moved to FL) poetryblogroll.blogspot.com and also shared with OLN at dversepoets.com where we are all committed to sharing :-)

    1. Hi Laurie!! Yep, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Still feel a little twinge of sacrifice that I'm living 3000 miles from my family, but when I look at my husband and my kids-totally worth it:-)

  2. Sara, I like the honesty in your poem. Sometimes SACRIFICES are very hard...when you are called to give up so much that is familiar and good in your life. I am glad all worked out in the end, despite the rough patches!

  14. You clearly, concisely tell the tale of what must have been a great challenge. Your brevity makes the piece stronger. Well done! (And so happy you found true love. That move was a necessary leg of the journey to that love, I suppose.)

  21. ...hi Sara... sorry a bit late at your lair... smiles... i think after all it's best to say Love wins... sometimes the sacrifices we do / take in life leads to brighter possibilities & greater good as it seemed in your case...and i am happy for you... very difficult to left friends, family , memories... but no... you just left 'em & not totally abandoned...and you could always look back...have visits... drop calls... anything to savor the memories of those you left behind... wonderful take on the prompt and brightest blessings to you & yours... smiles...

  22. You relate so well feelings and truth about the great sacrifice of place for love. We don't know what we are giving up until we go. Thing is we often find we have built up our lost place, too. The love keeps growing like the love for someone who dies.
