Running with the Wind

Prompt--Write a poem about a sport

Running With the Wind

Her shadow
Is still
Feet planted
Knees bent
Arms cocked
Eyes focused
At the crack of
Gunshot
She is running
Arms pumping
Heart pumping
Feet thumping
One of eight runners
Except
She hears nothing
Except her breath
And sees nothing
Except the finish line
And
Feels nothing
Except
The wind

Note:  I used to compete at school track meets, still gives me a thrill when I watch the Olympic runners-the focus, the speed...

  2. Hi Sara, the link you put in Poetry Jam using Mr. Linky did not work; when I clicked on it, it gave me a 'warning' so since it led nowhere and gave a warning I deleted it. I found your poem here another way, but do not think it really is written to the prompt "Everybody Knows," so I did not try to fix the link. Hope you will come back again another time. Best wishes.

  3. That focus comes through so clearly in this poem Sara -- especially in the still shadow, careful positioning, and the hearing/seeing/feeling of "nothing". Lovely ending! :-)

    1. What a wonderful compliment, so glad that you felt that focus--it was what I always loved about it, getting into that "zone"

  4. The rhythm of this is very much like a heartbeat, Sara, or the footfalls in a race. Wonderful format for a well-craften poem. Just great.
