The sun creeps
Up
Silent
On kitten toes
Stalks
The darkness
Spooks and
Spills a ray
Along the horizon
Waits for songbirds
To ease solitude
Then leaps
Into the pines
Day three (Whee!) of Poetic Asides--writing a tentative poem. Several false starts, but I think this one is fun :-) Just for grins, I'm sharing with Poets United, where Kim has offered up "body" never thought about so many types--and since I used a kitten analogy to em-body the sun, I'm sharing there too poetryblogroll.blogspot.com

Sara, I do like the idea of the sun creeping on kitten toes. Very valid comparison really!
ReplyDeleteHi Mary!! It always seems that way to me, sunrise is a slow--tentative process, and I love it that way:-) thank you!
ReplyDeleteLovely swerving from sun to kitten and back again. Just as well the sun doesn't gobble up the songbirds. I'm glad to read somebody else is having false starts :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Aprille!! Thank you so much! I could never have the songbirds gobbled up, I love them too much ;-) And I always have several false starts--part of the process...
Deleteabsolutely beautiful...reminds me of the carl sandberg poem a bit, but different...i like the sun as a cat...spilling a little light...ha....cool...
ReplyDeleteHi Brian!! Thank you for that reference, I felt a familiarity with the paws, but wasn't sure--I love that poem! Kittens are both rambunctious and tentative so I wanted to play with that...
Deletenice - love the image of kitten toes - so cool
ReplyDeleteHi!! Thank you so much for the visit, I loved that image too :-)
DeleteThe sun on kitten toes is a great image - doubly warming!
ReplyDeleteHi! Your comment really made me laugh--loved it, thank you :-)

Eileen:)
Hi Eileen!! Thank you--nature is one of my favorite places to be:-)
Deleteoh nice...i much love the image of the sun, leaping into the pines...very cool and playful
ReplyDeleteHi Claudia!! The ending took me awhile, I was trying not to sound too cliche with clouds or sky, then I thought where do cats like to go? So glad you enjoyed it:-)
DeleteIs there anything cuter than kitten toes? (Just sayin')
ReplyDeleteYour characterization of the sun as playfully zapping around, such fun.
I do think you need to take the "anonymous" option out of your comments, because that Pizza Guy up there has obviously not read your poem!!! Love, Am
Hi Amy, yes little toes of any sort are pretty adorable, :-) My comments settings don't let me block Anonymous, and I really hate to put a captcha on here.
DeleteA great description of the morning. I really like the "waits for songbirds to ease solitude", especially as I listen to chirping just outside my door!
ReplyDeleteHi Robyn!! Great to see you :-) That was a line that I liked to give the poem a bit of a beat and place--thank you for noticing!
DeleteI love the way you have em-bodied the sun! Lovely poem.
ReplyDeleteHi Sara!! Thank you so much for the visit and kind words, always good to see you :-)
ReplyDeleteLove this, Sara. :)
ReplyDeleteHi De!! So glad you enjoyed this. Love all that you've been writing too :-)
