Blow some soft rain
My way
Drip into
My soul
Smooth the edges
Blur the consequences
Leave the taste of nothing
On my tongue
Two weeks ago my father-in-law fell, hard-broke a lot of bones and has been
hospitalized—recovering now. He's a strong guy, and recovering
well—but days in hospitals and staring mortality in the face,
wrings my heart out. The rains of the tropics—warm and soft,
starting up now—feel like hope, and made me think of washing all this emotion away...
the rain is good...it brings life...and hope...ack, i am sorry for his falling..it is hard..a few years ago my mom fell and it took much in taking care of her...the state of nothing on your tongue...smiles..i like that...

Deletei can understand the wish for rain to smooth the edges...my mom fell a few years ago as well and it took quite a bit until she was recovering...she can't smell any more since then...hope your dad is better soon...blessings your way...
ReplyDeleteHi Claudia, that sounds like quite a fall-losing sense of smell is sad...glad that she has recovered. Thank you very much for the blessings :-)
DeleteI do hope the rain washes away the painfulness of the few weeks for you. Your poem expresses your desire well.
ReplyDeleteHi Mary, things are getting better every day, Thank you. Looking forward to playing with PJ today:-)
DeleteI love this poem and the deep emotions it expresses so subtly! Thanks for your encouragement to continue writing poetry!
ReplyDeleteHi Barbara!! Thank you for your lovely words. You're very welcome. Look forward to more poems and photos on your blog:-)
DeleteIs this the same man you wrote about in the poem "Caring is a Given"? I bookmarked that poem and read it from time to time - it is such a powerful reminder of how one person can be so caring without question. I sincerely hope every bit of the care he gave over the years returns to him tenfold.
ReplyDeleteLove your poetry.
Cyndi, I cannot begin to tell you how touched I am to know that you bookmarked that poem. Yes, it is the same man, well, he's not quite the same now--that blow to the head from the fall made him confused--it kind of comes and goes. He was a week in the hospital and three weeks in rehab, we just moved him into assisted living today--and yes, every day he was in the hospital and rehab, he had two, usually four, family members with him, visiting. It was exhausting, but he would have done the same for us and we're happy to do it for him. He is surrounded by love :-)
DeleteI truly love the poem and forgive me - the title is Super Man! I always think of it as Caring is a Given ... The wife of my husband's college friend recently fell down her basement stairs heading to do laundry - it was a very bad fall that left her in a similar situation with multiple broken bones, collapsed lung and brain injury. There were some dark days, but after a month's time in the hospital and now in rehab, she is so much better. She will be okay. Borderline miracle. Never give up hope for what the next day will bring for your father-in-law. Keep writing that beautiful poetry - you have a gift.
