Hair of the Dog

When you have a Husky
There's no way round
The volume of hair
That will surround
You
Tumbleweeds
Flow constantly
My floor becomes
A hairy sea
Hair in my clothes
Hair in my soup
I've no doubt
That hair's
In our poop
Yet at
Day's end
Who always greets
Me?
My smiling, wagging
Hairy Husky

This is offered up for Anthony's prompt to write about hair, at Dverse Poets dversepoets.com--This is our second Husky (mix--rescue) and we swore we wouldn't get another (Ha!) He definitely picked us, and it has been true love ever since.  Though the hair does get a bit overwhelming at times... ;-)

    1. Hi Brian! Sometimes I have to go with the flow...it made me laugh, too. Cats are much easier to maintain, yet they don't always greet you with as much enthusiasm. :-)

    1. Hi Bjorn! Our other Husky loved being outside, but this one loves inside. Probably because that's where the dog treats are...actually, it's mostly hot here so he loves the air conditioning :-)

    1. Hi Pajakta! They are very smart and enthusiastic, however that can make them really pull you down the street. I wanted to post a photo of him, but had technical difficulties. Thank you for the visit and comments :-)

    1. Hi! Yes, they are amazing. So very smart and expressive! Our last one talked all the time--asked for dinner at 6 every day, complained if we left him longer than we liked, warned me about less than honest contractors, complained if I paid attention to the parakeet...this one observes and knows everything--at 7 years old, he just started talking with us. I wish I could post a picture, he is so beautiful. :-)

  9. Love this--I just came back from walking my 2 little white dogs--I'm wearing black. When I was out in the daylight, I got a good view of how much hair is all over me. It's so worth it. Love our dogs!!!

    1. Hi Claudia! I'm sure that people notice the same thing about me. He seems to have a sixth sense about black clothing. If you're wearing it, he makes sure to lean on you...Thank you for the smiles :-)

  11. :) I understand - we are animal lovers too. Black pants will never be the same again - I'm always using a bit of water on my hands to brush off the hairs… sigh. Oh well. Really enjoyed this poem.

  12. sara, thanks for the visit, sorry it took me so long to reply. Computer issues. Your husky and my cat! White hair everywhere, and yes, even in the bedsheets, although I don't allow her under the covers. She is a love, she DOES snore, but I wouldn't have it any other way, as you well know. Sweet, sweet post! Amy

    1. Hi Amy! No worries, you are always worth the wait :-)
Yes, I wouldn't have it an other way either. I would love to hear a cat snore...that has to be hilarious. Though I guess not if you're trying to sleep.... Love and hugs to you!

  13. I am a bit confused about the "S" over at Poetry Jam. I click on the "S" and it leads nowhere. Now I see you have commented in my poetry blog, so I am paying you a visit. I remove those links in 'comments' over there that are not related to the prompt or of people who have not posted....I do hope we will continue to see you in the blogosphere. Write to the prompt perhaps?? Just for fun! Also haven't seen you in Poetry Pantry for a while. Hope to see you there.....good luck on your new blog.

    1. Hi Mary,

I'm not sure what happened. I think it's because there is auto fill and these are two blogs are linked, even though they are separate. I did actually post a poem responsive to the prompt on my other blog. Thank you for letting me know that the link was not working.
